GEA Conducts Second Workshop under the National Energy Efficiency Program

The German Energy Academy (GEA) in Jordan held the second training workshop as part of a series of workshops under the National Capacity Building Program in Energy Efficiency.

The workshop targeted employees of the Ministry of Finance and was organized in coordination with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the Ministry of Finance, with the support of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). The initiative aims to enhance awareness of energy conservation concepts and improve energy efficiency practices within the government sector.

The opening session was attended by Eng. Lina Mubaideen, Director of the Energy Efficiency and Climate Change Directorate at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources; Dr. Ali Al-Ghweiri, Director of the Financial Institute at the Ministry of Finance; Eng. Mohammad Juaidi, Project Manager of the German Energy Academy in Jordan; Mr. Raphael Wiese, Project Manager at (GIZ); and the Director of the Training Program at the German Jordanian University (GJU), Prof. Aiman Al-Batayneh.

In her opening remarks, Eng. Mubaideen emphasized the importance of strengthening institutional and individual awareness regarding energy efficiency practices, noting that the Ministry is implementing specialized capacity-building programs and conducting energy audit studies for several ministries and governmental institutions to assess energy consumption patterns and identify improvement opportunities according to best technical practices.

For his part, Dr. Al-Ghweiri reaffirmed the Ministry of Finance’s commitment to promoting optimal energy use and embedding sustainability concepts within the governmental work environment. He explained that the results of the energy audit study conducted for the Ministry’s building revealed the potential to reduce energy consumption by up to 26% of total consumption through the implementation of economically feasible measures with short payback periods.

In turn, Eng. Juaidi explained that the Academy in cooperation with GIZ, works to support capacity-building projects and programs in the energy and water sectors, besides the importance of involving employees in energy conservation efforts and strengthening the culture of individual responsibility toward energy use.

Furthermore, Mr. Wiese reaffirmed the Academy’s commitment to supporting training and awareness programs in energy efficiency, highlighting the role of such workshops in strengthening the capacities of government employees and advancing sustainability practices.

On the other hand, Prof. Al-Batayneh emphasized the importance of preserving energy resources and promoting a culture of energy conservation across various sectors. He also highlighted the fundamental role of training and awareness programs in enhancing the capacities of staff and developing their practical and technical skills in the field of energy efficiency, thereby enabling them to adopt more effective and sustainable practices in different work environments.

The two-day workshops included a series of specialized training sessions covering energy efficiency concepts in government buildings, as well as practical low-cost measures for reducing energy consumption. The sessions also focused on promoting daily practices and behaviors that support sustainability, in addition to addressing national energy efficiency policies and their connection to the state budget and climate commitments.

The training was delivered by the specialized trainers from the German Jordanian University, Eng. Mohammad Al-Shrouf and Eng. Marah Al-Dalgamoni.
