German Energy Academy in Jordan Launches National Energy Efficiency Capacity-Building Workshops

The German Energy Academy in Jordan has launched the first training workshop under the National Energy Efficiency Capacity-Building Program, targeting key government institutions. The workshop was held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, for employees of the Ministry of Labour, in alignment with Jordan’s national priorities in energy efficiency and its climate commitments, as well as the technical assistance concept for capacity building and awareness-raising among government officials.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Eng. Amani Al-Azzam; the Secretary General of the Ministry of Labour, Dr. Abdul Halim Dugan; the Director of the Training Program at the German Jordanian University, Prof. Ayman Al-Batayneh; and the representative of the implementing partner, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) , Eng. Ghaith Bani Abdulrahman.

In her opening remarks, Eng. Al-Azzam emphasized the Ministry’s support for implementing energy efficiency capacity-building programs, highlighting ongoing efforts to conduct energy audit studies across several ministries, including the Ministry of Labour. These efforts aim to assess current energy consumption and identify opportunities for improvement in line with best technical practices. She affirmed that improving energy efficiency is a national priority aligned with the Kingdom’s strategic direction, contributing to addressing economic and environmental challenges while enhancing energy security.

For his part, Dr. Dugan stressed the importance of adopting energy efficiency practices within government institutions, noting that this approach is no longer optional but a national necessity in light of rising energy costs and their economic and environmental impacts.

Prof. Al-Batayneh highlighted the importance of conserving energy resources and promoting efficient consumption practices, underlining the role of training programs in enhancing staff competencies and building their capacities in this field.

Eng. Ghaith Bani Abdulrahman emphasized the need to strengthen the capacities of professionals in the energy sector in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, contributing to improved energy security, as well as training and employment opportunities in this vital sector

The workshops include specialized training sessions covering key topics such as the fundamentals of energy efficiency in public buildings, low-cost practical energy-saving measures, behavioral practices for reducing energy consumption, national energy efficiency policies and responsibilities, and the relationship between energy efficiency, public budgets, and climate commitments. The sessions are delivered by specialized trainers from the German Jordanian University, Eng. Mohammad Al-Shrouf and Eng. Marah Al-Dalqamouni
