The German Energy Academy in Jordan, in collaboration with and supported by the Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation for Education and Al-Hussein Technical University, offers this specialized intensive course for technicians on the installation of photovoltaic solar energy systems. This course is prepared for accreditation by the Arab-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK) and covers all stages of installing, operating, testing, and maintaining photovoltaic systems. Trainees will gain practical skills essential for the job market in these areas, enabling them to become certified photovoltaic system technicians. A final exam will be held to assess the trainees and award them a certificate of expertise.

Instructors:

  • Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Ateili
  • Engineer Hamza Al-Banna
  • Engineer Radi Al-Rashid
  • Engineer Ahmed Azzam

Target Audience: Technicians and graduates in electrical, mechanical, and energy engineering. The
course content will be offered at an introductory level, serving as an important first step in preparing any
technician or engineer to enter the field of solar energy.

Prerequisites: Applicants for this course must meet the following requirements:

  • Nationality: Jordanian from host communities (50%) or Syrian refugee (50%)
  • Age group: 20-35
  • Employment status: Professionals, technicians, or engineers
  • Not employed or registered with social security
  • Electromechanical background

Expected Outcomes: By the end of this course, attendees will be able to meet the Jordanian professional
competency standards for the energy auditing and management profession, specifically:

  1.  Understand the basics of electricity, solar energy, and photovoltaic technology.
  2.  Know the types and components of photovoltaic systems, related single-line electrical diagrams, codes, and approved regulations.
  3.  Organize work for photovoltaic system installation (time management, work distribution, preparation of necessary equipment and tools).
  4. Prepare the site for photovoltaic system installation (site study, risk and obstacle removal, distribution of system components according to the desired objective).
  5. Construct the photovoltaic system structure (identify key points for the metal structure, install the primary bases, and fix the main photovoltaic assembly bridges).
  6. Install the electrical system of the photovoltaic setup (install the inverter, solar panels and their cables, circuit breakers, charge controller, and battery set).
  7. Conduct trial operation tests for photovoltaic systems (check cable and connection integrity, grounding, panel output voltage, battery condition, charge controller, and system current).
  8. Perform necessary maintenance for photovoltaic systems (replace panels, inverters, charge controllers, batteries, cables, and connections; address rust and damage in the system structure).

Topics:

  1. Introduction to Electrical Basics
  2. Solar Energy Fundamentals
  3. PV Technology Fundamentals
  4. Types and Components of PV systems
  5. Electrical Single-line Diagram
  6. Codes and Regulations
  7. Organization of work in installation of PV systems
  8. Preparation of PV systems installation site
